Someone to Know: Mary Pensyl

Mary Pensyl found her love again for the craft, which started when she was a child.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — One woman is finding strokes of inspiration to help others through art.

74-year old Mary Pensyl loves drawing and coloring, but her real pleasure is painting.

"I like people, and people are fascinating to paint," Pensyl said.

A single painting can take up to one day to complete for Pensyl, but a masterpiece takes a month.

Pensyl found her love again for the craft, which started when she was a child.

"Somebody in the family was artistic, and I was a child, and I admired that," Pensyl said.

Pensyl ended up teaching her self art, and nowadays, she is honing her skills at the Lindale Senior Center by teaching others art.

"It's helped me too because I've painted more than I used to," Pensyl said.

Art classes at the senior center are from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. twice a week. Pensyl has the chance to share her passion with the artist.

"She's very sweet, very nice, very talented and very humble," said Maggie Ponce, Parks & Recreation Senior site lead.

"I help them along. I let them do what they want to do, and I guide them," Pensyl said.

According to Pensyl, she will stay at the center for as long as they will have her.
