Peewee's receives $60,000 grant from PetSmart Charities

Peewee's will offer nearly 2,000 surgeries for both dogs and cats for just $10.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A Corpus Christi adoption center was awarded a grant that will go toward a good cause.

Peewee's Pet Adoption & World Sanctuary received $60,000 from PetSmart Charities Thursday. The grant is meant to fund the adoption center's spay and neuter efforts in Corpus Christi and areas around the Coastal Bend.

According to staff at Peewee's, Nueces County is the second worst county for animal neglect in the U.S. They hope the money will help decrease the stray animal population.

"If we stopped the unwanted litters and brought the population down to a reasonable number, then the pets would be well taken care of, and we could do that through stopping the unwanted litters and educating the public," Peewee's Director Ernie Cochran said.

With the help of the donation, Peewee's will offer nearly 2,000 surgeries for both dogs and cats for just $10.

Peewee's is located at 1307 Saratoga Boulevard in Corpus Christi.
