Police arrest three suspects in string of Sprint store burglaries

In all more than 40 Apple Watches and 10 smartphones were recovered.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Some quick thinking police officers were able to put a stop to a string of overnight burglaries at Sprint stores across the Coastal Bend.

The first happened around 3:45 a.m. Tuesday at a Sprint store off Leopard Street in the Annaville area. Police said the suspects, two men and a woman, broke into the front door of the store and stole cell phones and accessories.

The second burglary happened just 40 minutes later at a Sprint store in the 2700 block of SPID. Police said the suspects followed the same motive -- breaking in and stealing cellphones and Apple Watches.

The suspects then broke into a third Sprint store in the 5600 block of SPID.

Police then decided to find the next Sprint store in town, located at SPID and Airline Road, and waited there for the burglars to appear.

"There were several officers across the street watching the store," CCPD Lt. Michael Pena said. "When they saw the car approach very early in the morning, when no businesses are open, they knew something was up, and the vehicle fit the description."

In all more than 40 Apple Watches and 10 smartphones were recovered.

Police arrested 18-year-olds Malik Thompson and Kamry Brooks, along with 19-year-old Mannie Willis. They face charges of burglary to a building.
