Saints Memorial Church of God in Christ has been serving residents of Refugio for some 87 years, but now they are facing quite a challenge.
Hurricane Harvey caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage, and there is no money to make the repairs.
Pastor Darius Robertson showed 3News the damage to his church. He estimates the hurricane did about $40,000 in damage.
Robertson is in charge of the small church, which has a congregation of only 20 people. Services are still held there despite the condition of the roof, ceiling, doors and the walls, which have cracks running down them.
"Currently we did not have insurance. We tried and were rejected two years ago and we've been making updates and repairs on the building to bring it up to code to get the insurance," Robertson said.
With no insurance, and FEMA not covering damages to churches, the pastor is hoping people out there might donate to help his congregation get their house of worship back in good working order.
"Well I hope to see, you know, that we can recover. Repair the building," Robertson said. "Recover from the damages, and that we can continue being a church that serves our community."
