Reliant Energy, City of Corpus Christi open 'Beat the Heat' cooling centers

In 2019 Reliant Energy went one step further and provided dozens of small portable air conditioning units that will be raffled off throughout the summer.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The City of Corpus Christi is giving residents a way to escape the South Texas heat by having several locations around opened where people can go inside, cool off, and get hydrated.

With the mixture of heat and humidity in the Coastal Bend standing in the shade just doesn't cut it, so for the 10th year in a row Corpus Christi has provided the Beat the Heat program.

There are three locations around the city where people can seek refuge from the heat in summer, including the Greenwood Senior Center, Lindale Senior Center and Oveal Williams Senior Center.

The Beat the Heat program sponsored by Reliant Energy offers not only an air-conditioned space but also snacks and water to enjoy.

In 2019 Reliant Energy went one step further and provided dozens of small portable air conditioning units that will be raffled off throughout the summer.

"If they have a room that just doesn't get very cool or doesn't have air conditioning, they can have it right next to them to keep them cool whether they're watching a tv program, reading, you know whatever it is."

Reliant Energy also provides a care program where they assist costumers who are struggling to pay their energy bill in the summer.
