The Port of Corpus Christi celebrated their 90th birthday Wednesday during their State of the Port Address, during which they predicted continued business growth.

Port Board Chairman Charlie Zahn outlined the Port's beginnings in 1926, thanking those who have been investing in the Port for the past century. That included recognizing the Port's first business, the Aransas Compress Company, which utilitized six cargo docks to ship cotton.

Zahn said the evolution to today's widening of the ship channel will set the stage for future business success.

"The new Harbor Bridge will put us in a position where we can attract the larger vessels that are being built around the world, and that we can continue to attract industry partners that will bring good paying jobs and industry into the Coastal Bend," Zahn said.

Zahn also recognized that the first oil export destined for another country sailed earlier this year.
