Students at West Oso Junior High learned Tuesday the dangers of drinking and driving from the guest speaker Sarah Panzau.

Sarah Panzau was once an award-winning volleyball player at Southwestern Illinois College. In 2003 after a night of partying Panzau decided to drive home drunk, she ended up in a horrific car accident.

Panzau lost her left arm and nearly lost her life.

"The trauma surgeon told my mom one of my first surgeries was a 13-hour facial reconstructive surgery. The trauma surgeon said, mam. I don't know how the whole low part of her jaw wasn't ripped off of her face it was so bad," Panzau said.
