Texas State Aquarium looking to add new facility

The new facility will also provide an interactive element for guest.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Texas State Aquarium is looking to add another stop for guests to enjoy when visiting their facility.

Currently, the Aquarium is in the beginning stages of creating a wildlife rehab center on the main campus. The current rehab center is two miles away at the Port of Corpus Christi.

According to president Tom Schmid, the new center will be twice as large and will act as more than just a rehab facility.

"As well as having research space for our staff to conduct some of the work they are interested in doing. We'll have space for visiting researchers or scientists from universities to come partner with us," Schmid said.

The new facility will also provide an interactive element for guest.

The earliest Aquarium can expect to break ground on the project is 2020.
