The process of family reunification can take a toll on a child. Especially if they've been taken away from their parents or have to stay overnight at the facility.

In Corpus Christi, the local branch of Family Protective Services is making this process less stressful by making their rooms bright and filled with brand new toys.

Today, the Junior League of Corpus Christi spent their Sunday giving rooms in the building a fresh coat of paint, more furniture but most importantly, new toys.

"Having a cheery room you know especially in such a hard situation i think it's great to be able to look at new toys and play with their family while they are going through such a hard time," Brittany Sandbach said.

Sandbach, a volunteer with the Corpus Christi Junior League, said this is a project that she and her peers always enjoy.

"They really love it, especially when it has to do with kids, they love being able to help the kids in some way and hope that it makes a lasting impact," Sandbach added.

As the ladies gave the walls a fresh coat of blue paint, built shelves and put together new toys, Monica Alaniz with CPS, realized their work would make a lasting impact.

"It's very nice to have these rooms remodeled and nice, to have nice toys so they can spend quality time here with mom and dad," Alaniz said.

Often times, Alaniz said children are in state care under sad circumstances, but having rooms that feel like home, help them integrate into a new life.

"This renovation is gonna help all the children and families that we serve," Alaniz explained.

The Junior League of Corpus Christi has been helping CPS for years and Alaniz, along with her peers, are thankful for their donated time.

"It's great that we have resources in the community that come and volunteer their time; members that probably wont' meet these children but they've done something good for them."
