Traffic stop bailout prompts police search, GPISD school lockdown

Police said they had initiated a traffic stop nearby and 5-8 people fled on foot.

GREGORY, Texas (Kiii News) — A precautionary lockdown was put in place Thursday morning at the Gregory-Portland Independent School District's Stephen F. Austin Elementary School as police searched the surrounding neighborhoods for a group who fled during a traffic stop.

The lockdown was announced around 7:45 a.m. on the GPISD Facebook page.

Police said they had initiated a traffic stop nearby and 5-8 people fled on foot. Police were searching the area for them, and by around 10 a.m. had apprehended six of them.

The lockdown at Stephen F. Austin Elementary School was initiated as a precautionary measure while police searched the area.
