TxDOT, first responders host simulated work zone crash in Woodsboro

The campaign is aimed at reducing crashes and fatalities in work zones.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — According to officials at the Texas Department of Transportation, in their 10-county Corpus Christi District, work zone traffic crashes rose by 52-percent, increasing to 661 in 2018 compared to 434 accidents in 2017.

TxDOT, first responders and Coastal Bend law enforcement were in the Woodsboro area Monday morning to feature a simulated crash in a work zone in an effort to care for the injured. TxDOT is urging drivers to pay special attention in work zones on Texas roadways.

"We want everybody to go home to their families every night, kids want their parents coming home every night, so just be precautious, slow down during our work zones and when you see the red, blue and amber lights, slow down, pull over, pull over to the side," maintenance technician Terry Castaneda said.
