United Way donates thousands to volunteers

The group plans on spending two-years in the Coastal Bend and re-building about 40-homes destroyed by last year's hurricane.

Corpus Christi (KIII News) — The United Way of the Coastal Bend donated $100,000 Thursday to a volunteer group helping people in Aransas Pass who are trying to recover from Hurricane Harvey.

Hands and Hearts Smart volunteers help with disasters across the globe and live in the communities they repair as they help with long-term recovery.

Thursday's donation goes towards repairing 18-homes in Aransas Pass.

"Within about 48-hours of the storm making landfall in Rockport," project manager Brett Bond said. we had a team in Aransas Pass assessing the community for short term and long term recovery, in about 2-days, and in about a week, we were managing 30-40 volunteers."
