United Way of the Coastal Bend donates money to aid hurricane victims in Refugio County

With the help of this grant, the Refugio County Volunteer Reception Center will be able to repair 90 homes and help nearly 300 people in the area.

REFUGIO (Kiii News) — Some people over in Refugio county will finally receive some long overdue relief from Hurricane Harvey.

The United Way of the Coastal Bend presented a $450,000 grant to the Refugio County Volunteer Reception Center.

The grant will help those still struggling from the hurricane who don't have insurance.

Members of the reception center said it meant a lot to them to receive this grant, especially since United Way was their very first donor.

"It is just fabulous," Refugio County VRC Director Dorey Williams said. "We are so excited they stepped forward and saw the need that Refugio county has and you know, it's just unbelievable and exciting to be able to use this money to help those in need. So, I'm really excited."
