U.S. Coast Guard rescues fisherman who lost his kayak

The man was not hurt and was rescued in time.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a kayaker Tuesday morning after he lost his kayak and tried to get it back at the Lawrence Street T-head.

The kayaker told 3News he was out fishing and had tied his kayak to the rocks, but it came loose and drifted away. The man tried to swim after it but couldn't grab hold of the kayak, and that's when he started waving for help. Thankfully a bystander saw him.

The man was not hurt and was rescued in time.

"If he was in there for however many hours, just struggling, I mean he was worn out by the time they got him on that boat," witness Wyath Lillard said.

According to authorities, the man was not wearing a life vest. Authorities said you should always be safe out on the water, especially on windy days.
