U.S. Marine pilot killed near Japan has South Texas ties

Resilard went through primary flight training at Naval Air Station-Corpus Christi and moved on to Naval Air Station-Kingsville for advanced training.

Corpus Christi (KIII News) — A marine pilot who was killed in a crash near Japan had ties to the Coastal Bend.

On Thursday Capt. Jahmar Resilard was killed during a training mission after a mid-air refueling accident off the coast of Japan.

Resilard was a volunteer with the Kleberg County Toys for Tots program and those who knew him said they were heartbroken when they heard the news.

"It's hard news for us to hear because he just meant a lot to us. He was a very sweet, funny, caring guy and what made him stand out to us was he sought us out. He came up to us and said I want to help. How can I help? I want to volunteer," said Rebecca Sanchez and Stefanie Perry.

Resilard went through primary flight training at Naval Air Station-Corpus Christi and moved on to Naval Air Station-Kingsville for advanced training.
