The Valero Volunteer Council presented a check for more than $64,000 Wednesday morning to the Wesley Community Center from the proceeds of the ninth annual "Reel it in for Kids" fishing tournament.

56 teams participated in the tournament, which was originally scheduled for Aug. 26 but was rescheduled to Oct. 28 due to Hurricane Harvey.

"It's a huge blessing for the Wesley Community Center to be a recipient of these funds. We wouldn't be able to continue some of our services for at-risk kids without this financial boost. It helps us fill the gap, and this group of volunteers has been awesome to work with over the past few years," said Malinda Conway Faughn, Executive Director for the Wesley Community Center.

Since the start of the fishing tournament, the Valero Volunteer Council has raised more than $350,000 for organizations like Wesley Community Center, Foster Angels of South Texas, the Coastal Bend Food Bank, and Lead First.
