53-year-old Carla Welch, the woman accused of shooting and killing 45-year-old Larry Ray Simpson at her home in the 7900 block of Caribou Drive, made her first appearance in court Wednesday.

Welch appeared before Judge Missy Medary for a status hearing to determine who her defense counsel will be.

Police found Simpson's body in a bedroom in Welch's home on Saturday after receiving a call from a third party saying there had been a disturbance at the home. Welch was arrested for murder and is now being held on a $1 million bond.

Welch's attorney said there would be a motion to request a reduced bond, but Judge Medary said any motions will be looked at in two weeks at a later status hearing.
