The Corpus Christi Police Department is teaming up with La Palmera Mall to prevent shoplifting and other theft-related crimes.

Once a month, they hold meetings at the mall to discuss previous crimes and recent trends. By better understanding the ins and outs of loss prevention, stores are seeing a decrease in shoplifting.

"Maybe one retailer has a tid bit of information that is added to someone else's," said Commander Santiago Escalante of the CCPD. "It really helps to put together intel, suspects, vehicles, trends at that particular time."

In addition to the loss prevention program, the CCPD is also tackling theft and property crime through its holiday initiative.

Over the next few weeks, you can expect to see additional officers at the local malls and shopping centers.
