Shooting victim dies from injuries, suspect in police custody

On Monday police reported that a suspect, a 57-year-old male, has been taken into custody but has not yet been booked into the City Detention Center.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A shooting victim left in critical condition Sunday evening has died from his injuries, according to the Corpus Christi Police Department.

It was just before 6 p.m. Sunday when police said a disturbance broke out in the middle of the street in the 300 block of Baker Street. At some point, police said the suspect shot into a moving car and struck the victim, who ended up crashing in the 400 block of Brooks Drive.

Officers were called to the scene in reference to the shooting. When they arrived the victim, a 30-year-old male, was being removed from the vehicle by medics and was taken to the hospital where he later died.

On Monday police reported that a suspect, identified as 57-year-old Jesus Gamez, has been taken into custody but has not yet been booked into the City Detention Center.
