On Monday, the Corpus Christi Convention and Visitors Bureau announced the arrival of the Corpus Christi Challenge, an NCAA basketball tournament.

The tournament will be held Thanksgiving weekend of 2013. Eight teams will play for over two days at the American Bank Center.

Basketball teams from Texas A&M University-College Station to Saint Mary's University and Sam Houston State University, just to name a few, will come to the Coastal Bend for the tournament. The games will be aired on national sport television network outlets.

"Thanksgiving is a great time to bring people into town and create more to do for the local people," said Keith Arnold, CEO of the Corpus Christi CVB. "It's just quality basketball. We've been interested in it, and to have this chance is just a great opportunity."

Organizers hope it will become a success so the city can host the games again in 2014.
