CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Del Mar College hosted a Nobel Prize-winning scientist Thursday for Student Research Day.

Dr. Mario Dr. Capecchi, a molecular geneticist, won the coveted award back in 2007.

Student Research Day is a chance for students studying similar fields to meet some of the scientists and doctor's they learned about while in class to get a feel for what life is like outside the classroom and hopefully be inspired.

"They're the next generation of scientist. Also, science is essentially what drives the country. in terms of new technology and innovation. It all comes from science. Also, this is the next generation. So I'm always inspired to try to help them and inspire them to take over because we build on the shoulders of others," Capecchi said.

Capecchi teaches human genetics and biology at the University of Utah School of Medicine.
