One year later, Robstown community remembers shooting victims

Last year, the Robstown community lost five members to a tragic shooting

ROBSTOWN, Texas — Just one year after a tragic shooting spree that left five people dead, the Robstown community gathered for a candlelight vigil.

On July 27th, 2018, 60-year-old Richard Starry allegedly shot four of his family members, Ernest Starry, Thelma Montalvo, Isaiah Starry, and Roel Mireles, before shooting and killing himself. 

Ernest and Thelma were found dead inside of the Retama Nursing Center. Initially, the nursing home was put on lock-down and later, officials discovered the bodies of Mireles, and Isaiah Starry inside of a home in Robstown.

On Saturday, several people gathered to remember the victims and mourn the devastating loss. 

"We missed them a lot this passed year, we missed their presence, their beautiful lives what could of become of especially the little boy that was 13 years old that lost his life," Norma Atkinson, Thelma's sister said. 

Family members and friends said the Starry family was well-known and loved in the community.
