Special needs children in the City of Alice now have a new place to go for fun and to play.

Anderson Park is putting in new playground equipment that is specifically equipped for handicapped children, including swings and monkey bars. The new equipment was funded as part of a multi-year park renovation plan.

"An individual or family might have a couple of kids, and obviously they want to be inclusive; and when you see that human component, that very real component, I don't think there is anyone out there that wouldn't want to do that," Alice City Manager Ray De Los Santos, Jr., said. "We want to do that for our community, and every member of our community."

The new equipment is expected to be ready to play with next week.
