Bipartisan group wants to get rid of outdated Texas laws

The caucus will target laws that have serious consequences that may have been created in just the past couple of decades but are now obsolete

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Did you know it's illegal to milk someone else's cow in Texas?

State Representative Todd Hunter has joined a group to examine old laws in the state and introduce relevant ones.

Hunter is part of the bipartisan group that wants to throw out ineffective laws and create new ones that will address today's new situations and technological growth.

The caucus will target laws that have serious consequences that may have been created in just the past couple of decades but are now obsolete, or the laws are no longer necessary.

"What some of these laws do are based on 10 to 20 years ago. We need to modernize them. Bring some common sense to a lot of the areas. But we also want to do a good balance. We want our public to have input. We want our prosecutors to have input," Hunter said

While the caucus is aimed at serious law reform, 3News found some outdated laws that are still on the books in Texas from Dumblaws.com.

  • It's illegal to sell one's eye.
  • It's illegal to take more than 3 sips of beer at a time while standing.
  • Criminals must give their victims 24 hours notice of the crime they will commit.
  • It's illegal to milk another person's cow.
  • It's illegal to shoot a buffalo from a hotel's second floor...
  • The entire Encyclopedia Britannica is banned because it contains a formula for making beer at home.
