NUECES COUNTY (Kiii News) — With any election day comes information to digest, and plenty of it. This year's midterms include several high profile races from the federal level down to municipal, and thanks to the League of Women Voters, staying informed just got easier.
WHERE TO VOTE: Election Day polling locations in Nueces County
The League of Women Voters have compiled a handy, non-partisan voters guide to help those looking to cast an informed ballot. Questions determined by the LWV board were presented to candidates, who then submitted their answers via Vote411.org, a "one-stop-shop" for election-related information that was formed by the LWV Education Fund.
In this guide, candidate responses are reprinted verbatim and are not edited. Here are the races:
Republican candidate Michael Cloud has been serving in this position since former Rep. Blake Farenthold resigned from office. Cloud now faces Democratic candidate Eric Holguin, Libertarian candidate Daniel Tinus, and Independent candidate James Duerr.
Incumbent Rep. Abel Herrero, D-Texas, faces Republican candidate Chris Hale in the midterm elections.
Incumbent Judge Jack W. Pulcher, R-Texas, faces Democratic candidate Craig D. Henderson in the Nov. 6 midterm elections.
Texas' 148th District Court is located in Nueces County under presiding Judge Guy Williams, who is not running for re-election in the midterms. Republican candidate Bill Kelly faces Democratic candidate Carlos Valdez in the Nov. 6 midterm elections.
Nueces County Judge Loyd Neal announced in June of last year that he would not be running for reelection in the 2018 midterms. Republican candidate Mike Pusley faces Democratic candidate Barbara Canales for the judge's seat on Nov. 6.
Former City Councilwoman Carolyn Vaughn was appointed to the position of Precinct 1 Commissioner back in February after former Commissioner Mike Pusley stepped down to run for county judge. Vaughn aims to remain on the court and is running on the Republican ticket against Democratic candidate Robert G. Hernandez.
Democratic Judge Robert J. Vargas is running in the Nov. 6 general election against Republican candidate Russell Manning.
Nueces County Clerk Kara Sands is running for reelection on the Republican ticket against Democratic candidate Diana Barrera.
Incumbent Republican Anne Lorentzen is running against Democratic candidate Gerald Garza in the Nov. 6 general elections.
Incumbent Justice of the Peace Henry Santana for Precinct 1, Place 2, is running for reelection as a Democrat against Republican candidate Manuel "Manny" Rangel.
Five candidates are running for Mayor of Corpus Christi including incumbent Mayor Joe McComb, Michael Hall, Ray Madrigal de Pancho Villa, Dan McQueen and Aislynn Campbell.
There are a total of seven candidates running for three At-Large positions on Corpus Christi's City Council.
Julian Firo, Everett Roy and Joy Miller are running for the District 1 seat in Corpus Christi's City Council.
James T.C. Chadden, Sylvia Campos, Ben Molina and R.J. Torres are running for the District 2 seat in Corpus Christi's City Council.
Eric Cantu, Roland Barrera, Roland A. Gaona, Eric Lee Tunchez and Margareta Fratila are running for the District 3 seat in Corpus Christi's City Council.
Greg Smith and Richard Diaz are running for the District 4 seat in Corpus Christi's City Council.
Eric Rodriguez, Carlos Torres, Paul Thurman and Gil Hernandez are running for the District 5 seat in Corpus Christi's City Council.
Guy Watts, Hector "Coach" Salinas and Sandra Longoria Messbarger are all running for the At-Large position on the Del Mar College Board of Regents.
