CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Texas Congressmen Vicente Gonzalez has co-sponsored new legislation to stop the automated phone calls known as robocalls.

The proposal would give the government the power to issue stronger penalties against callers who violate the law. The legislation will also make telephone companies like AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile use the latest technology to determine if calls are real or are spam.

"This is to protect the American public, we're going to arm fcc with more power to penalize bad actors," Congressman Vicente Gonzalez said.
