Over at Incarnate Word Academy, a special ribbon cutting event took place on Friday for their new all-weather track.

Friday's celebrations mark the end of the first phase for a $4.3 million renovation project. The project also includes a gymnasium and the expansion of the elementary campus.

"Long time waiting for this. We have been pushing for this for 40 years," IWA Athletic Director Reynaldo Garcia said. "I have been told by Coach Wienzel we were fortunate. When I took over as AD, I kept pushing for an all-weather track and many of the board members and our alum kept pushing for it, and today, they made it happen, along with our community and many of our donors."

Phase two of the project, which includes the construction for a new montessori building, is scheduled for next school year.
