The Rockport-Fulton area is trying to be proactive in making the most out of the Eagle Ford Shale and all that comes with it.
The Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce said it has developed a strategic plan, focused on housing, business development, recreation and tourism.
Landowners throughout South Texas who are coming into wealth because of mineral rights and royalties are looking to buy vacation homes in Rockport, and oil companies have expressed interest in setting up satellite offices in some of the existing vacant buildings in town.
"We don't know of a lot of communities out there marketing a community to the Eagle Ford Shale," said Diane Probst of the Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce. "We think it's just hit these small communities, and they have sometimes one or two people within their Chambers of Commerce, and we feel like, if we can kind of turn and look at that as a marketing opportunity, that we can help our local businesses."
The Chamber of Commerce said several companies have contacted them, expressing interest in locating to the Rockport-Fulton area, and saying they want to be close to the water.
