Salvation Army receives $55,000 as part of Doan Grant

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Thanks to generous donations from various organizations in the Coastal Bend, one group will be able to continue their work helping those in need.

On Wednesday, the Salvation Army received a more than $55,000 grant from the Coastal Bend Community Foundation. The donation was part of the Doan Grant, and none other organizations were also helped out.

"The Coastal Bend Community Foundation came in at just the right time, and we are so grateful that is gonna make us be able to meet our budget and to continue to serve those in need," Salvation Army Capt. Patrick Gesner said.

The Doan Grant is named after a long-time resident of Corpus Christi, Ms. Olga Doan, who passed away in August of 2013. Doan was a collector of antiques and wanted to donate her money to charitable organizations.

With the help of the donation, the Salvation Army will be able to help more people with food and shelter.
