It was a harrowing ride for 39 students onboard a school bus Monday, when the bus crashed into a fence near the intersection of MacArthur and Horne Road.

The accident happened just after 8:30 a.m. Investigators believe that the tire rod on the bus failed. The bus driver then took evasive action by guiding the bus into a fence, where it eventually crashed.

Representatives of the Corpus Christi Independent School District applauded the actions of the bus driver, saying that he took the best course of action when that emergency occurred.

"You never know what you can do. In the end, the students are safe and sound, and that's the import thing," said Lorette Williams of the CCISD.

All of the parents of the students were notified. The students on the bus were okay, but they had quite a story to tell their classmates.
