CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - The sixth flu-related death in Nueces County was confirmed by City-County Public Health District officials on Wednesday.

The patient was a female between the ages of 30-40 years old. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital on Tuesday. Additional information regarding the female's identity is being withheld to protect the patient's privacy.

Dr. William Burgin, Jr., Local Health Authority, advises everyone to protect themselves against the flu by getting the flu shot, and by distancing themselves from sick people whenever possible.

The City-County Health District offers four tips to keep in mind to protect yourself and others from the flu:

  • If you are sick, stay home to keep from getting others sick.
  • Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you sneeze or cough.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand rub.
