People across the globe will observe Earth Day today, whether that is by planting trees or car pulling.

Sarah Acosta was live for 3News First Edition with marine biology experts on the TAMUCC campus learning what effects our actions have on the environment.

From over fishing to high carbon dioxide emissions, TAMUCC scientists say our day to day actions have a big impact on organisms in our ecosystems.

Some tips on how you can protect the planet:

- Don't speed, drive the speed limit, car pull

- Follow the fishing regulations

- Recycle all recyclable goods

- When spraying pesticides, spray conservatively

- Turn off lights, and AC when not in house
