The Solomon P. Ortiz Center was packed with hundreds of small business owners Wednesday, as everyone was looking to see how they can get a piece of the pie known as Eagle Ford Shale.

"Curiosity above all," said Fred Garza with H2O Construction Services. "We wanted to find out if there was some way our company could be involved with Eagle Ford Shale and pick up some of this business."

Everything from welding businesses to electricians and hospitality services were on hand for what was called The Big Event. Seminars were held to let small businesses know how they can take advantage of opportunities provided by Eagle Ford Shale, as well as international trade and government contracting.

A recent study from the University of Texas at San Antonio found that in 2011 alone, there were 38,000 full-time support jobs created because of Eagle Ford Shale.
