Various local groups and individuals joined together to help the YWCA kick off one of their signature programs, A Week Without Violence.
Smith Elementary held a family festival Monday night to provide parents some useful tools to keep their children safe. The Week Without Violence campaign began some 20 years ago as a way to take action in communities across the country against all kinds of violence.
"It's very important to start at this age, letting children know how they can protect themselves, and then letting parents know the dangers that are out there and how they can help keep their children safe at home and at school," said Heather Butscher, a Smith Elementary social worker.
Monday night's festival included a demonstrations in martial arts, Zumba, and even a magician on hand to entertain the kids.
