Hooks dominate the RoughRiders

Corpus Christi picked up the win Sunday night 9-1.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas —  Seth Beer and Josh Rojas powered the Hooks to a 9-1 beatdown of the Frisco RoughRiders Sunday to split the four-game series at Whataburger Field.

The Hooks immediately jumped on Frisco starter Tyler Phillips as the first five batters reached base in the first inning. Among those was a towering three-run bomb off the bat of Seth Beer to give the Hooks an early 4-0 lead. Chuckie Robinson's RBI single made it 5-0 after one frame.

Joshua Rojas started the second with a home run and added another solo long ball in the eighth. It was his sixth multi-homer game in the past week, becoming the first player in Hooks history to accomplish the feat.  He has six clouts in his last six games.

On the mound, the tandem of Cristian Javier and Bryan Abreu held the Riders to two hits and one run over a combined 8.0 innings of work. Javier didn't allow a hit in his 4.2 frames, walking two and committing an error while punching out six. Abreu (W, 3-1) nearly matched Javier, allowing two hits, two walks and a run while striking out five over 3.1 innings. He's given up just two runs in his last 13.1 innings pitched, fanning 18 in that span.

Rojas finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored. Abraham Toro went 1-for-4 with an RBI, extending his hitting streak to 12 games. Beer and Granden Goetzman each were 2-for-4 on the night, combining to drive in four runs.

Corpus Christi has Memorial Day Monday off before heading to Midland for a three-game stand. Lefty Brett Adcock (0-5, 8.18) is slated for the Hooks against righty Grant Holmes (1-1, 3.86) for the 6:30 p.m. start.
