CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII-TV) — This week's 3News Athlete of the Week is Beeville softball's Aaliyah Ruiz. Ruiz, in her senior year, has been an ace for the Lady Trojans.
Helping lead them to the State Semifinals last season and this season she's back at it again. Ruiz is approaching the 200 strikeout mark and she's certainly no stranger to racking up strikeouts. Ruiz broke a Beeville Jones record last season with 23 strikeouts in a 13 inning win.
When not in the circle, Aaliyah uses her arm out in the outfield patrolling center. Once the season is over, Ruiz will turn her focus to pitching at Lamar University where she will be signing to play.
