Carroll girls top rival Veterans Memorial; Flour Bluff falls to Victoria West

The Carroll Tigers are the area' lone 5A team remaining in the girls basketball playoffs after their win over the rival Eagles.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Carroll Tigers proved they were the team that could take down state-ranked Veterans Memorial, topping the Eagles during district play and then again in the third round of the playoffs Tuesday night.

The Tigers overcame a slow start to beat Vets Memorial in overtime 50-45 and advance to their second regional tournament in three years. Carroll will face seventh-ranked S.A. Veterans Memorial Friday at 5:30 PM at North East ISD's Littleton Gym in San Antonio.

The 19th-ranked Flour Bluff Lady Hornets were topped by fellow district champion Victoria West 50-48 in a game that also went to overtime. The Lady Hornets were denied a return trip to state after reaching the final four last season.
