Vets boys dominate King; Carroll girls get key district win over Victoria East

Veterans Memorial padded its district lead while the Carroll Tigers got a big district win in the girls' standings.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The local Class 5A basketball teams are getting into the thick of the playoff race with an 18-game slate to get into the postseason.

The Veterans Memorial (7-0) boys dominated CCISD rival King 96-64 to pad its district lead. The Mustangs (4-4) were down 15-0 in the second quarter before Vets went on a 13-0 run to put the game away.

On the girls side Carroll (6-3) got a big win over Victoria East (5-4) by a final of 50-44. Both teams entered the night tied for third in the district behind Veterans Memorial and Flour Bluff.
