Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball splits South Texas Showdown series with UTRGV.

CORPUS CHRISTI (Islanders Athletics) — Story Headlines

- Despite keeping the score tight throughout the game, the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi women's basketball program (3-4, 0-0 Southland) was unable to put together a late comeback against rival UT-Rio Grande Valley (6-3, 0-0 WAC), falling 70-57 Tuesday night at the American Bank Center on the Corpus Christi Athletic Club court. With the loss, the Islanders finish with a 1-1 tie in the South Texas Showdown, presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union, after having defeated the Vaqueros earlier this season in Edinburg, Texas.

- Forward Alexes Bryant concluded with a team-best 18 points, a new career high on the Island, along with seven total rebounds, three assists and two blocks.

Key Islander Statistics

- After a back-and-forth first and second quarter, both squads entered halftime tied at 36 apiece before the Vaqueros made a scoring 14-9 scoring run in third quarter and 20-12 in the fourth. Even with some late Islander steals, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi never managed to recapture the lead as UTRGV pulled away with some crucial free throws.

- The Islanders put together their best performances during the first and second quarters, shooting 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from the floor in the former and 33.3 percent (5-of-15) from the floor in the latter, not to mention 25.0 percent (1-of-4) from beyond the arch and 90 percent (9-of-10) from the free throw line as well.

- Guard Brianna Jackson managed nine points in her first start this year, a new season high for the senior, adding one defensive rebound on her 14 minutes.

- Junior Dalesia Booth recorded 10 points in tonight's game along with four rebounds, two assists, one block, and one steal.
