CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Two drivers in their mid-20s, a male and a female, were rushed to hospital early Tuesday morning following a crash on Gollihar Road near the Ayers Street intersection, according to the Corpus Christi Police Department.
Police said they were called to the crash just before 7 a.m. Witnesses at the scene told police a driver traveling westbound on Gollihar Road was weaving around vehicles when he lost control, crashing into an oncoming vehicle.
The driver that lost control, a 24-year-old male, and the driver of the other vehicle, a female also in her mid-20s, both suffered life threatening serious bodily injuries. Police said they were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
According to CCPD lieutenant at the scene, there was some indication that the male driver may have been under the influence. A criminal investigation is underway to determine if he faces charges of intoxication assault.
First responders had to shut down a stretch of Gollihar near the Ayers Street intersection for a couple of hours as they cleared the scene and reopened the intersection to traffic.
Soon after the crash, the City of Corpus Christi sent out notice that a total of 10 first responders who assisted at the scene of the crash were quarantined out of an abundance of caution because one of the drivers involved fit the criteria for having COVID-19.

The first responders -- four CCPD officers and six CCFD firefighters -- remained in quarantine until the patient's test results came back negative on Wednesday.
