Two-vehicle crash on FM 1694 results in fatality and serious injury, Texas DPS investigating

The driver of the Ford Focus, 61-year-old, Herman Garcia, was pronounced deceased at the crash scene. DPS officials say Garcia was a resident of Corpus Christi.

NUECES COUNTY, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal, two-vehicle crash that occurred Saturday afternoon. 

According to DPS, at approximately 2 p.m., a Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed on Farm Road 1694 near County Rd. 48, just a half-mile southwest of Corpus Christi.

The driver of the Dodge Ram veered into oncoming traffic in the roadway and struck the driver's side of a Ford Focus passenger car that was traveling southbound on FM 1694. 

"he driver of the Dodge Ram was traveling at an unsafe speed for a curve in the roadway, veered into the oncoming lane of traffic and struck the Focus in the driver's side door before over-turning off the road," stated DPS officials.

The driver of the Ford Focus, 61-year-old, Herman Garcia, was pronounced deceased at the crash scene. DPS officials say Garcia was a resident of Corpus Christi, Texas. 

DPS officials say the driver of the Dodge Ram was transported to Spohn Shoreline Hospital in Corpus Christi by ground with injuries.
