CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — City of Corpus Christi officials say the Bond 2014 Ayers Street Pedestrian and Turn Lane Improvements Project from South Padre Island Drive to Gollihar Road will move forward to its next phase.
According to city officials, "reconstruction and widening of the existing 4-lane roadway to 5 lanes, ADA compliant ramps, and ADA sidewalks will be extended up to the RTA transit station at Port Ayers, new turn lanes at the intersection Ayers/Mansheim and Ayers/Sunnybrook."
Officials say additional work will include storm drainage enhancements, pavement markings, and minor utility work.
Construction is anticipated to take 28 months, according to city officials.
Other improvements from the Bond 2014 Ayers Street Pedestrian and Turn Lane Improvements Project will include:
- Widening approximately 3,000 linear feet of Ayers Street to accommodate for the addition of a continuous turn-lane and right turns at SPID, McArdle, and Gollihar
- Convert existing roadside drainage ditches to underground culverts with the construction of a 36” drainage pipe
- Utility improvement for water, wastewater, and gas
- New curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and ADA ramps
- Extension of ADA compliant sidewalk along the east side of Ayers Street from Gollihar to Port Avenue that is partially funded by RTA
