It's been about two and a half months since Hurricane Harvey made landfall in the Coastal Bend and destroyed many cities and disrupted several school districts.
On Wednesday, U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos paid a visit to the Port Aransas Independent School District to see first hand the rebuilding and recovery efforts taking place here in South Texas.
DeVos took time to address the students in a morning assembly and then went into a few classrooms to read to the kids. Part of her visit is to assess how the Department of Education can help to rebuild the schools and get them back up to standards.
DeVos' tour of Hurricane Harvey damaged areas will include a visit to Houston and Kingwood, TX this afternoon with visits to Summer Creek and Kingwood High Schools. A roundtable discussion with principals from aroudn the area will conclude her visit to the area.
