CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — June 1 marks the start of hurricane season and as we know here in South Texas, it's never too early to start preparing.
Preparation - the word being used by many officials as hurricane season arrives.
Ken Graham with the National Hurricane Center said it's things like checking around your house for trees that could fall and talking with your neighbors to help one another also prepare.
"Step one is to know your risks," Graham said. "If you're one of those in those evacuation zones right along the coast, you know you gotta listen to those local officials. Have a place to go. Have all of that in a plan ahead of time."
"Talk to your family about when we might have to leave. How would we care for our pets and where we're gonna go and then make sure they talk to friends and family and share that message."
Officials stress that although we are still facing a pandemic, hurricane season is upon us and now more than ever is a time to try and prepare as early as possible.
"We can't stop it we just gotta be ready for it and I think something that is so important to me is that if you have that plan it's less stressful," Graham added.
