Four detained after barricading themselves in business on Ayers Street

The scene was located across Ayers Street from Del Mar College's East Campus.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Police Department's SWAT team was called to a standoff at a business in the 2800 block of Ayers Street just after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

According to police, the call came in as a reported theft. Two juveniles were reportedly seen running into the business and police said they were possibly armed.

SWAT team officers were dispatched to the scene and began communicating with the suspects. Just after 1 p.m. four suspects came out of the building and surrendered themselves to police.

The scene was located across Ayers Street from Del Mar College's East Campus at an automotive shop. The college put out an alert to students and staff via Twitter at 11:39 a.m. Tuesday warning to avoid the area. They also sent an alert to anyone parked in the Venters Building parking lot to move their vehicle out of the area.
