Officials warn residents about potential City employee imposters

According to the City of Corpus Christi, there were several reports last week involving people posing as City employees and requesting to go inside homes.

The City of Corpus Christi put out a warning to residents Monday to use caution when any person representing themselves as a City employee wants to access their home.

According to the City, there were several reports last week involving people posing as City employees and requesting to go inside homes.

The Corpus Christi Police Department said they received three such reports last Friday -- that people posing as City workers were attempting to get into area homes. One of the incidents occurred near Ocean Drive, and the other two happened near West Guth Park on the city's northwestside.

In each case, police said two men were involved. One would distract the homeowner while the other walked into the home.

In all three cases, the victims were elderly.

"He did not have the appearance of our City employees, but he was allowed to go into that house. What we would ask that if anybody ask to go inside your house or to lead you around to the back of the house, making your house vulnerable, someone else could go into your house, call 911," CCPD Lt. John Hooper said. "City employees are not going to be offended if you as a homeowner try to verify their identity."

The City reminds customers to look for identifying information. If the individual is really a City employee, they can provide the following:

  • A City issued identification that includes an employee photograph, City logo and bar code.
  • A City issued vehicle including a City logo and department information.
  • An official uniform with a logo and their name.

If you are ever concerned or cannot identify a potential City employee, call the Corpus Christi Police Department at 361-886-2600.
