Campers continue Easter tradition at Labonte Park

Dozens camped out at Labonte Park again this Easter, both those who have long called the park home on Easter and those visiting for the first time.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas —

Dozens of families continued the tradition of camping at Labonte Park for the Easter holiday weekend.

"We used to come when we were younger, and we just started again last year. It's fun! Especially right now because we get to fish. Hopefully we catch something," visitor Juan Sanchez said.

While waiting for the rest of their family to show up for an Easter celebration, Sanchez and his 8-year-old nephew Isiah spent their Sunday morning fishing at the park.

"Everybody is really just out here having fun and listening to music. It's a good time," he said.

Gabrielle Gonzalez and her family traveled from the Valley to celebrate Easter in Corpus Christi for the first time.

"Usually, my brother travels to us because most of us are down there, but now that we've kind of spread out in Texas, we decided to come up here this year," Gonzalez said.

While celebrating Easter in Corpus Christi was a first for Gonzalez, she says coming back is something that her family is considering after their experience at Labonte Park.

"We've already started talking about it saying like, 'Hey, this is completely different.' We'll come to you if we need to, or we can do this at a park somewhere else. This is more open space and just more freedom for them just to run and let loose," she said.
