The future of Downtown Corpus Christi

There are a lot of plans for the future of Downtown Corpus Christi and those involved want everyone to be able to enjoy them.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Whether you're a native of Corpus Christi or just stopping by from out of town, you're going to want to make time to visit downtown.

The area has seen so many changes over the last several years, a completely different scene from a decade ago and beyond.

Officials with the Downtown Management District said there is even more to look ahead to this year!

Executive Director of the Downtown Management District, Alyssa Barrera Mason said there is a lot in the talks for growing downtown.

"We have a lot of new projects in development right now downtown including the new Homewood Suites, the renovation of an old hotel into a Holiday Inn Express as well as a renovation of Furman Plaza into a mix use building called 'the Foundary'," Mason said. "We have several new businesses in the process of opening up."

Owner of local business Wildflowers, Terri Moore, wishes Corpus Christi natives would appreciate downtown as much as the tourists do.

"I think its great that visitors come downtown and they eat here, they shop here, that's a given because we're by the water and its beautiful," Moore said. "I think it's locals that need to change; locals need to really appreciate how beautiful our bay front is and enjoy downtown more."

Like all things, growing downtown is going to take time and planning, but both women said that through it all, downtown is one of their favorite places to be.
