Padre Balli Park facility forced to deal with post-freeze pipe issues

Nueces County Coastal Parks Director said work is being done to clear ice-clogged pipes at a Padre Balli Park facility.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Near-record lows caused problems with the pipes at a Padre Balli Park facility.

A piece of ice trapped in one of the water lines caused some drainage issues for the building because its pipes were exposed, Nueces County Coastal Parks Director Scott Cross.

"The main line that comes into our buildings does have some kind of a valve on it that prevented the water from completely draining out of the feeder line, and so we've got this little ice plug that we've got to get thawed out before we can get water in the offices."

Despite work being done to clear the drainage issue, he said the facility and RV park are still open to visitors.

The county joins a number of residents throughout the city dealing with the aftermath of recent freezing temperatures.

Here's what you can do if your pipes are frozen:

  • Shut off the water supply immediately (if you do not know how to do this the local fire department will help you).
  • Don't take chances, call a licensed plumber to fix it.
  • Have a bucket, mop and towels handy in case the pipes crack.
