Police say alcohol played a role in Wednesday morning car crash

The driver was ejected from the vehicle, landing in the middle of the street.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Police Department have confirmed that alcohol was a factor in a car accident Wednesday morning in the 2100 block of Airline Road.

It happened around 2 a.m. Airline Road had to be shut down as a result of the crash.

According to witnesses, a driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a power pole. The driver was ejected from the vehicle, landing in the middle of the street. As of Thursday night he was still in the hospital listed in critical condition.

Police said they are not releasing the driver's name at this time, but that alcohol and speed played a role in the crash. Charges are pending.
